How we raised $98,210 for CNBC

Proceeds go to Autism Speaks and the Council for Economic Education which supports financial literacy.

When CNBC approached us with the idea of doing a drop for charity, we couldn’t be more ecstatic. Not only were we thrilled to be able to help raise awareness of NFTs to the general public on national television, but to be able to do it for a good cause was the icing on the cake.

For this special drop, CNBC chose a very special one. In honor of legendary announcer and host, Mark Haines, who famously called the bottom of the S&P 500 back in 2009, CNBC’s very first NFT was of that very moment which was since known as the “Haines Bottom”.

The charity auction began on May 24, 2021, the 10th anniversary of the unexpected death of Haines at age 65. Haines started at CNBC in 1989, the year the business news network began.

During the closing hours of the auction, we saw a 5-way tussle that involved “two4one”, @pranksyNFT, T-Mobile’s @JohnLegere, and even Mintable’s very own investor, @mcuban. The winning bid for that NFT was $61,210.60 from Landry’s Chairman and CEO @TilmanJFertitta, who also owns the Houston Rockets.

Besides the main auction, we also sold 37 $1,000 tokens commemorating the infamous occasion. In total, $98,210 was raised in 48 hours in honor of the late CNBC legend.

The proceeds will be split between Autism Speaks, a favorite charity of the Haines family, and the Council for Economic Education which supports financial literacy. CNBC also worked with a firm called Aerial to make sure that this was a completely carbon-neutral campaign.


Congratulations and thank you to all those who supported this campaign with proceeds going to a good cause.
